Beyond Westminster: An introduction to devolved, local and regional government structures

Overview

Through presentations, cases studies and interactive exercises this workshop will explore how local government works, the role of metro mayors and the powers held by devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

By the end of this session participants will:

  • Recognise local and devolved government structures across the UK
  • Understand local and devolved political and policymaking processes
  • Have an insight into how academic research and expertise can impact policy at a local level.

Showrunner Communications

The training will be delivered by consultants from Showrunner Communications, an agency that specialises in building reputations, relationships and influence. They will each bring many years' experience of running policy engagement programmes for a wide range of public, private and third sector organisations, including extensive work in higher education.

Audience

This event is open to all researchers, PGR students and staff at the University of Exeter, regardless of career level. We particularly welcome registrations from disabled, LGBT+ and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) attendees.

We welcome applications from Professional Services staff, however please note academic applications will be prioritised.
